Roth, Speights to exchange vows

George L. Roth, of West Monroe, is pleased to announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of his daughter, Amanda Roth, to Colton Speights.

The bride-elect is the daughter of George Roth and the late Barbara Roth. She is the granddaughter of Janice Roth, of West Monroe, the late Harold Roth, Robert Williams Sr., of Pensacola, Fla., and the late Lois Williams. She is a graduate of Cedar Creek School, a student at Louisiana Tech and is employed with Sterling Pharmacy in Ruston.

Lonidier, Pyles to unite in matrimony next month

Danny and Carolyn Lonidier, of Ruston, are pleased to announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Ashley Nicole, to Brandon Todd Pyles Jr., of Ruston.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Henry Paul Morris, of Philadelphia, Miss., Martha Mantooth, of Plaquemine, Jane and Woody Richards, of Arcadia, and Jimmy Wade Lonidier, Sr., of Arcadia. She is a 2007 graduate of Ruston High School, a 2011 graduate of Louisiana Tech University and is currently employed at Glenwood Regional Medical Center in West Monroe.

Douglas, Beckham to wed in October ceremony

Jerry and Lucy Douglas, of Ruston, are pleased to announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Emery Jayne, to Joshua Layne Beckham, of Choudrant.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Margie Opal Douglas, of Ruston, Barbara Blunk, of Ruston, David and Rose Ann Douglas, of Gerton, N.C., and the late Chester Blunk. She is a 2007 graduate of Ruston High, attending Louisiana Delta Community College in the Licensed Practical Nursing program and is employed with Ole South Diner in West Monroe.

Grambling council passes selections

GRAMBLING — The Town of Grambling has been working on bringing new infrastructure and businesses to its limits for quite some time through the help of a tax increment financing district. Last week, Grambling got even closer to seeing that dream become a reality when the town council unanimously approved the selections for the TIF district’s taxing board.

Woods ablaze

LPFD requests LDAF help with fire

The Lincoln Parish Fire Department responded to a woods fire off of Howell Road south of Simsboro at approximately 5 p.m. Tuesday.
The first LPFD personnel to arrive on the scene found approximately 35 acres of woods and brush burning. Fire department personnel extinguished the fire in the areas that could be accessed by LPFD equipment.

Mack qualifies for SB seat

George Mack Jr. has qualified for the Lincoln Parish School Board seat held by his father, the late George Mack Sr.
Mack, a Democrat who resides in Ruston, has been filling the District 11 seat on an interim basis since the elder Mack passed away in February.
As of press time this morning, Mack was the only person who qualified.

Tractors pull their way into expo center

Typically, tractors are used for various agricultural functions in a field setting. However, this Saturday, at the North Louisiana Expo Center, antique model tractors will be pulling their weight, literally, in the Fourth Annual Antique Tractor Pull.
Presented by the Boeuf and North Louisiana Vintage Tractor Clubs, participants will be divided into two categories, with multiple classes within each.

Chicken Fest pageant set

DUBACH — The annual Louisiana Chicken Festival in Dubach will be held the weekend of Sept. 29 with the pageant being held at the Dubach High School Gymnasium the weekend before. 
Dubach looks forward to having its festival and eight new queens reigning over the festivities.
 The pageant is for girls ranging from ages 1-18 years of age, divided into eight categories. Baby — 1 year-olds, Toddler — 2-3-year-olds, Tiny — 4-5 year-olds, Little 6-7-year-olds, Petite — 8-9-year-olds, Deb — 10-12-year-olds, Jr. Teen — 13-15-year-olds and Teen Miss — 16-18-year-olds.

Bulldogs in awards’ lineup

Five Tech candidates to be included on ESPNU show

There will be a definite Louisiana Tech University flavor to a national football awards show on Friday night.
Five members of the Bulldogs’ defending Western Athletic Conference champions will be included on the list of candidates for major awards in the ESPNU College Football Awards Preview Show to air on the network starting at 5:30 p.m., CDT.

Bearcats, Cougars: Grading time

Friday scrimmages will provide fall camp evaluation

Get the report cards ready.
That’s what head coaches Billy Laird of Ruston High and Ben Haddox of Cedar Creek High will be doing on Friday.
The Bearcats and Cougars will get a good idea as to the progress they’ve been making in fall camp when they take part in preseason scrimmages that will arrive just over a week before the “Jam at the Joe.”
