Janet Elizabeth Bear Wright

Funeral Service for Janet Elizabeth Bear Wright, 96 will be held 2:00 PM, December 31, 2013 at Owens Memorial Chapel. Officiating the service will be Rev. Rick Walters. Janet was born Janet Elizabeth Bear on May 11,1917 in Flannigan, Il. She was the daughter of Lawrence and Evelyn Bear, the fifth of six children. She graduated from Texas State College for Women and was trained as a dietitian at Johns Hopkins University. She then served as a hospital dietitian in the United States Army during World War II. She was stationed in England during the war, and in Germany during the occupation.

William “Dub” Brewster

Funeral services for William “Dub” Brewster, 86 of Ruston will be 2:00PM Monday, December 30, 2013 in the Chapel of Owens Memorial Funeral Home in Ruston with Rev. Michael Murray officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Mr. Brewster died Wednesday, December 25, 2013 in Ruston. Dub was a WWII Army veteran and had owned Cedarton Grocery from around 1950 until 1971. He then worked for the US postal service until his retirement. He was a member of the Rock Corner Baptist Church, also the Downsville Masonic Lodge # 143 and had served on the Lincoln Parish School Board. Mr.

So much for not being drafted high.
Or, for that matter, being drafted at all.
Jordan Mills and Ryan Allen are only a year removed from their careers at Louisiana Tech University, yet have become valuable members of their NFL franchises.
Mills, a 6-5, 305-pounder, is already being regarded as one of the league’s top first-year offensive interior performers.
The Napoleonville product has become a young monster on the midway for the Chicago Bears.

Texas A&M tops Techsters

COLLEGE STATION, Texas — Texas A&M came out on fire offensively, built a 26-point halftime lead and coasted to an 80-52 win over Louisiana Tech before 4,544 fans at Reed Arena Saturday night.
The Aggies (8-4) full court press forced some early Tech turnovers as Texas A&M hit its first eight shots from the field and shot 65 percent in the opening half en route to a 51-25 halftime lead.
All five Aggies starters scored in the opening eight minutes and when center Karla Gilbert converted a conventional three-point play at the 14:02 to mark of the first half, Texas A&M led 19-2.

G-Men downed at Evansville

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) — D.J. Balentine scored 20 points to lead Evansville over Grambling State 96-61 on Saturday.
Blake Simmons and Jaylon Brown both had 14 points for Evansville (7-6), while Egidiju Mockevicius and Duane Gibson added 10 points.
Grambling State (1-7) was paced by A’Torri Shine with 13 points while Antwan Scott added 10 points and six assists.
Evansville shot 60 percent from the floor, including 7 of 11 (64 percent) from beyond the arc. Grambling State went 25 of 67 (37 percent) from the field while hitting just 5 of 23 on 3-pointers.

2014 La. Sports Hall of Fame class announced

NATCHITOCHES — Former Lady Techster and Olympic gold medalist Venus Lacy, who helped Louisiana Tech win the 1988 women’s basketball national championship, LSU product Alan Faneca, a nine-time Pro Bowl selection, and All-Star pitcher Shane Reynolds and and headline the eight-member 2014 Induction Class to be enshrined June 21 in the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame.

Lady Techsters release 2014 softball slate

Louisiana Tech released its 2014 softball schedule on Monday and the 56-game slate features four tournaments, including a six-team home event to open the season, and a road contest against defending national champion Oklahoma.
Tech hosts the Lady Techster Invitational and will also participate in road tournaments hosted by the University of Texas, the University of Arkansas and Louisiana-Monroe
