The Lincoln Parish Museum has received a new donation and display that will be up through early March.
James White, a Ruston native, is responsible for drawing the 78 different churches that are on display.
“I started drawing the churches in 1990,” he said. “Once I retired from (Louisiana) Tech (University) in 1995, it was my wife Donna who really pushed me to finish.”

One day, Lincoln Parish Superintendent Danny Bell believes the school system will be able to look at a screen and tell exactly where every student in the school system is located.
While that day is likely far off, Bell said the school system is continually looking to upgrade the school security systems.

Psychologists offer tips to lessen stress during the upcoming year

With 2014 right around the corner, many people are looking to improve their lives by bettering themselves physically, mentally and emotionally.
One New Year’s resolution many people have is to better manage their stress level next year. Local psychologists John Fergusson and Damion Cummins are offering tips to manage the stress that comes with everyday life.
Cummins, of Cummins Counseling, said there are six tips to managing stress levels:
• Know the difference between good stress and bad stress.

Working on the weekend

Louisiana Tech may be out for winter break, but workers demolishing the Caruthers Dormitory building were hard at it Saturday as their work continued. Pictured in the foreground is a worker cleaning dust and small debris off of Tech Drive as the demolition process continued. Plans are to leave the area that once contained Caruthers and Neilson Dorms as a green space.

Several hundred students graduated from Grambling State University during the fall quarter. Local students are listed below by degree and hometown:
• Associate of Science in Child Development: Grambling — Samantha Dimmer; Jonesboro — Adrian Kary; Ruston — Sharon Goldsmith.
• Bachelor of Arts in Art: Ruston — Demetrius Harris and Marantz Moon.

Local children collaborate with area artist on creative experience

Lincoln ACHIEVE recently built upon the success of its partnership with Northeast Louisiana artist Frank Kelley Jr. to bring his new “Geometrics Through the Arts” project to students throughout the district. The exciting new initiative allowed a small group of students from seven different schools to engage in a collaborative creative experience that exceeded all expectations.

Looking back at a good year

When I consider the year just ending, it beats the previous year, hands down. No quadruple heart bypass surgery; no totally missing turkey season. 2013 has been a good year overall.
Feb. 1 — When I married Kay soon to be 30 years ago, she brought into our relationship a longing and desire for something that finally found its way into a special parking spot at our house. She bought the Mustang she’d wanted since she was 16.

Remember history and common sense

Question: Looking back at 2013, I think I spent most of the year waiting for the other shoe to drop. And it never happened. I’m not sure whether or not to think things are fine again, or whether that other shoe will drop early in 2014. What are the chances of us going into another financial crisis this year?
Answer: I believe long-term optimism is the realism of history and common sense. On the other hand, what’s in store for 2014 is anyone’s guess. The odds of a genuine financial crisis look pretty low at this point.
