Safe driving around town

Nights are getting colder and longer as we are settling in for winter. With these long, cold nights come trips to local grocery stores and businesses later in the evening. With those late evenings comes a danger for travelers locally.
Every day, we hear about wrecks that take place in Lincoln Parish, and there are always some. But wrecks are happening closer together because of the extra holiday traffic and adverse weather conditions December usually brings.

Tech professor, students to present at international nanotechnology conference

Louisiana Tech University doctoral students Chris Boyer and Sonali Karnik will accompany David K. Mills, professor of biological sciences and biomedical engineering at Tech, to the third International Conference on NanoTek recently in Las Vegas, Nev.

RUSTON — For a game that was destined to be a track meet, it sure helped that Louisiana Tech had a guy nicknamed Speedy on its team.
Despite going out of the game for a period of time due to cramps, point guard Kenneth Smith delivered a double-double performance with 12 points and a season-high 12 assists, along with four steals, to outrace the Demons, 93-71, on Wednesday night in front of 3,547 fans inside the Thomas Assembly Center.

Lady Techsters shuts down Northwestern State

Former Lady Techster star and Louisiana Tech fan favorite Brooke (Lassiter) Stoehr made a homecoming to her alma mater Wednesday night as she led her Northwestern State Demons into the Thomas Assembly Center.
After a warm welcome by the Tech faithful in pregame introductions, Stoehr and Co. ran into a buzz saw.
Tech (3-6) recorded its most complete game of the season as the Lady Techsters played 40 minutes of basketball on both ends of the floor in a 74-40 victory over Northwestern State.

Simpkins, Benjamin join Tech athletics staff

The Louisiana Tech Athletic Department has announced the hiring of Reggie Simpkins to serve as the Assistant Athletic Director of Academics, along with Brandon Benjamin, who will handle the duties of academic advisor for football.
Simpkins will oversee all academic services pertaining to the Bulldog and Lady Techster athletic programs, while Benjamin will serve as the primary academic advisor for the Bulldog football team and its student-athletes.

Science fair winners named, spreading holiday cheer

Science Fair
The Department of Science at the Louisiana School for Math, Science and the Arts held its annual science fair on Dec. 5 in the school gym.
Awards were presented in introductory biology, advanced biology, chemistry and physics.
First place in introductory biology were Chris Carter, Chris Jackson, Justin Goff and Antonio Milton with “Seed Germination in Specific Temperatures with Little to No Water.”

AJB students go ‘green,’ visit the library

Going Green
Alma J. Brown Elementary is off to a good start with our Go Green Project. LSU AgCenter, along with our sponsors, Walmart, Community Trust Bank and Dr. Rhonda Pruitt, of True Care Dental, helped us to begin our garden project. A special thanks goes to Daisy Fielding for making our garden beautiful and Wanda Wilson, our garden caretaker.

KEYPOINT COMMUNICATIONS, LLC

KEYPOINT COMMUNICATIONS, LLC is proposing to install a lattice telecommunications tower near 1601 Vienna Street in Ruston, Lincoln Parish, Louisiana 71270 at latitude 32° 30' 40.7” north and longitude 92° 38' 14.9” west. The height of the tower will be 73.2 meters above ground level (167.0 meters above mean sea level). The tower is anticipated to have steady red lights, FAA Style E (L-864/L-865-/L-810).
