Mrs. Marzee White Mitcham

Funeral services for Mrs. Marzee White Mitcham, age 93 of Ruston, will be held on Sunday, December 1, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. in the Temple Baptist Church Chapel with Rev. Dale Oden officiating. Burial will follow at Pines Memorial Gardens under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston, LA. Mrs. Mitcham was born in Castor, LA on February 16, 1920 and passed away in Ruston, LA on November 27, 2013. Mrs. Mitcham was a long time active member of Temple Baptist Church for over 77 years. She enjoyed her Round Table Book Club, WMU, and flower arranging for which she received many awards.

Increased abuse seen during holidays

But according to a publication called Every Mother Counts, the truth is that for 25 percent of women in America, and 33 percent of women worldwide, domestic violence takes the upper hand during both of these times.

Funeral services for Dorothy Dean Washington LeGuin, 87, of Rayville, LA will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, December 2, 2013 at the Rayville United Methodist Church with Rev. Darryl Tate officiating. Burial will follow in the Rayville Masonic Cemetery under the direction of Brown-Holley Funeral Home, Rayville.
Dorothy was born September 8, 1926 in Lake Village, AR and passed away Tuesday, November 26, 2013 in Ruston, LA after a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband, Jacob Malcolm LeGuin and her brother, William “Bill” Washington.

BE IT RESOLVED, that the following millage is hereby levied on the 2013 tax roll on all property subject to taxation by the Village of Simsboro.

Special Meeting

THE VILLAGE of Simsboro met in a Special call meeting on Monday, November 25, 2013 at 6:15 p. m.
Mayor Hendricks called the meeting to order. Present were: Mayor Hendricks, Aldermen: Pam Durrett and Doug Durrett. Absent: Alderman Tiffany Cole.
Alderman Pam Durrett voiced the prayer and Mayor Hendricks led the Pledge of Allegiance.
Mayor Hendricks presented the agenda. A motion was made by Alderman Pam Durrett and second by Alderman Doug Durrett to adopt the agenda as presented. Motion passed.

Citizens take action by voting

This is our country. We don’t have to accept the trash coming out of Washington D.C. that’s being presented to us as “the fruit of the government of the greatest nation on Earth.” The president’s approval rating is 37 percent and that of Congress is about 9 percent. Collectively those we have elected to govern us are unfit to do so. It’s time for “change that really matters.”

Help prevent house fires this winter

The long summer days are a thing of the past and cold winter nights are here to stay. Many people have fireplaces in their homes, and it is very exciting being able to sit by the fire on a cold winter’s night. With the cold weather upon us, it is even more important to practice fire safety in the home.
Tuesday night, the Lincoln Parish Fire District No. 1 responded to a fire in Dubach, which resulted from a propane heater located in a bedroom. There was only minimal damage in the house with the exception of the bedroom where the heater was located.
