Bell outlines goals for the school system

The Lincoln Parish Library Community Room was packed around noon Monday as residents, school officials and community leaders gathered for the third annual State of the District address.
Superintendent of Schools Danny Bell provided attendees with a list of recent accomplishments of the district, as well as a number of long-term goals.
Bell began by talking about the Ruston 21 goals that the Lincoln Parish School Board adopted almost three years ago. Among those goals was that the district would rank in the top 12 school districts in the state by May 2013.

Many in the Louisiana Tech University family remember Patsy Ann Brister Lewis for the tremendous impact she had on people.
Tech President Dan Reneau said he was saddened to hear of Lewis’ passing, as was the entire Tech family.

They replaced Joan Couch, Doug Davison and David Osafo. Other members of the vestry are John Kyte, Sr. warden, Linda D. Griffin, Greg Hennigan, David Hedgepeth, Heath Hightower and Jenny James, clerk. Steve Napper was elected Jr. warden.

GRAMBLING — A renewal of its rivalry against Interstate Highway 20 neighbor, a rare 12 regular season games and first-ever meeting with a Texas-based university, plus an appearance in an NFL venue provide an extra glimmer to the 2013 football schedule announced by Grambling State University.
Arguably, it’s one of the most attractive slates in the school’s history, one that will begin with an Aug. 31 home game against Southwestern Athletic Conference opponent Alabama A&M University at Robinson Stadium on campus.

Ex-GSU star earns state Hall honor

If this is another year, then it must mean another Lincoln Parish inductee into the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame.
That will be the case in late June when former Grambling State University basketball star Jimmy Jones will be a member of the Class of 2013 honorees at the state shrine in Natchitoches.
