Bankrupt in the soul?

Bankrupt. Some $50 billion vanishes because one man decides, inexplicably, to steal rather than to invest. And why in the world did he do it? Bernard Madoff was a wealthy man, the former head of the Nasdaq exchange. Why engage in a Ponzi scheme when the one thing you know about Ponzi schemes is that they must come tumbling down?
“They denied that Wishes were Horses; they denied that a Pig had Wings. So we worshipped the gods of the Market Who promised these beautiful things.”

Bulldog ‘Blue Flu’ spreads

“We’ve had the bowl stuff in for a little under a week now, and we’re already half sold out,” Tech bookstore manager Colleen Durrett said. “I think the bowl gear has brought a little extra traffic into the bookstore, too.”
That extra traffic the bookstore has seen hasn’t only been on foot.
“We’ve had a lot of Internet orders for the bowl gear, too. We just got in a shipment of hats and cups, and some of those are a little late in shipping, but should make it in time for Christmas and the game.

Volunteers protect shoppers

Sometimes, just seeing a shopper overloaded with bags could be a magnet for those who want to economically enhance their own Christmas at the price of taking it, literally, right out of the hands of others. The Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office provides a number of safety tips for shoppers, such as walking to the shopping centers in pairs and carrying only a small amount of cash or credit cards. Some others suggest locking away shopping bags in the trunk between store visits, where they are out sight of would-be thieves.

Tech, NIU fooled ‘guessperts’

In the Mid-American Athletic Conference, the Huskies were predicted for an overall mark of 5-7 and a bottom-dwelling windup in the Western Division.
Polls, smolls.
Obviously, they mean about as much as another dieting plan by Oprah.
Tech produced a 7-5 record and shared second place in the WAC with Nevada and Hawaii.
Northern Illinois went 6-6 on the season and was No. 4 in the MAC’s West.
Oh, and they’re both headed for a Dec. 28 collision in the Independence Bowl.

Legislation could boost area

NFT has struggled as it has grown, with intense focus from its leadership team helping keep it on the cutting edge of a new technology field. I’m convinced the company is going to explode all over the place once it can cross certain hurdles like money, market saturation and exposure levels. Really think for a few minutes about what would happen if free, live streaming video was to really catch on.
There are already several organizations that have seen the light of the “free-for-view” model, and the setup is perfect for all kinds of broadcasts.

Enforcement in DWI fight is appreciated

Deputy Mike Smith is just one of many law enforcement agents in the area who is taking a hard line against the offense. The Louisiana Highway Safety Commission has taken note of his superior enforcement efforts, however, giving him a state honor that only six other officers in sheriff’s offices received.
In our population group — areas with 25,000-40,000 people — Smith led the state in DWI arrests for this year up to October, and that honor is a strong source of pride for his superiors and for our community.
