Ruston High’s baseball team wouldn’t mind spending this entire week in New Orleans.
They can do that very thing by winning tonight against Jesuit High in a Class 5A Louisiana High School Athletic Association regional round playoff game.
By taking a victory in the 6 p.m. contest at the Flyers’ diamond, District 4-5A champion RHS can advance into the Tulane University-hosted state tournament that will start with the quarterfinals on Friday and conclude with championship action on Saturday.
JACKSON, Mississippi (AP) — Arkez Cooper recovered a key fumble in the final seconds to cement Grambling State’s first win of the season, 40-35, over Jackson State on Saturday night.
Grambling State (1-3, 1-0 SWAC) had built a 24-point lead in the third quarter before Jackson State (2-2, 0-1) shaved the deficit to 40-35 and was driving for the end zone again when LaMontiez Ivy fumbled at the GSU 34 with 28 seconds left. Cooper was there to grab it and Grambling State ran out the clock for the win.
PINE BLUFF, Ark. — UAPB quarterback Ben Anderson was a one man wrecking crew, accounting for nearly 500 yards of total offense as Arkansas-Pine Bluff beat Grambling State 45-42 Saturday.
Anderson passed for 280 yards and four touchdowns, while rushing for a season-high 192 yards and another touchdown. He completed 19-of-29 passes, with no interceptions. The only interception in the game came on a failed trick play and Anderson was not the passer.
