The Pony Express was a mail service delivering messages and mail from St. Joseph, Mo., to Sacramento, Calif., by horseback, using a series of relay stations, 1860 to 1861. It became the West’s most direct means of east–west communication before the telegraph was established. Improvements were made over the years and Western Union became the standard means of communications across the nation. That continued as long distant communications until the age of the computer.
HB 533, which will be considered by the Legislature on Monday, protects rates paid to Medicaid providers of nursing and group home care. It calls for a Constitutional amendment that would set rates at 2013 levels and would require that they be increased every year by the rate of inflation.
This is bad policy and is unfair to more than 45,000 Louisianans who have waited years for services in their homes rather than in the institutions protected by this Bill.
