GRAMBLING — It’s hard to believe 51 people can make a difference to a town the size of Grambling, but it’s the quest for 51 people that has the town and Mayor Ed Jones clamoring for a recount from their 2010 census count.
With an official count of 4,949, Grambling, considered a town by the United States government, needs just 51 more people to be legally considered a city to reap the benefits of the title.
A man convicted for having indecent behavior with a juvenile has been sentenced.
Judge Jay McCallum sentenced James Anthony Bell to serve 42 years at hard labor for 10 counts of indecent behavior with a juvenile. Bell was originally arrested in July 2012 for the charges.
According to a press release from the 3rd Judicial District Attorney’s office, Bell received the maximum sentence allowed by law on each count of the conviction, which is a fine of $5,000 and seven years at hard labor.
