Fans of the Ruston-based District 5 Big League baseball team braved a rain delay and marathon game late Saturday night. Tonight’s championship begins at J.C. Love Field at 5 p.m. For more on the tournament, see page 3.

Another year, another win for Ruston.

And that’s not only talking about the District 5 Big League baseball team based here.

It’s a win for the entire city as the 2011 Big League Southwest Baseball Tournament Regional Championship is held at J.C. Love Field in Pat Patterson Park on the Louisiana Tech campus.

North Louisiana-based District 5 will take on Texas East in a 5 p.m. contest today with a trip to the Big League World Series in Easley, S.C. at stake. Unbeaten in the tournament, District 5 has to win one of a potential two games to make their sixth straight trip to the Big League World Series. If Texas East should win tonight’s opener, then a second and final game would follow around 7 p.m.
