Train kills power
More than 600 residents and business owners were left in the dark for nearly half an hour on Tuesday afternoon in downtown Ruston.
Darrell Caraway, light and power operations manager, said at approximately 1:50 p.m. the city was thrown into darkness by a train passing on the Kansas City Southern rail line that bisects downtown Ruston.
The train reportedly struck a power line knocking it down between Bonner and Farmerville streets. Caraway said the line was not hanging down and was measured to be at the appropriate height before the incident.
