Fire count high
In the past seven days, the Lincoln Parish Fire Department has responded to 12 grass and/or woods fires throughout Lincoln Parish.
Jim Hilton, spokesman for the LPFD, said that although Lincoln Parish has received much needed rainfall during the month of August, the area is still experiencing extremely dry conditions.
Hilton said three of the fires began on Aug. 18 and were the result of lightning strikes during a thunderstorm where there was heavy rainfall, which confirms that conditions are very dry and susceptible to fire. As a result, the burn ban for Lincoln Parish that began on June 6 remains in effect.
