With the average date of the first killing frost approaching, many home vegetable growers are anxiously keeping an eye on their fall crop of tomatoes. Waiting for green tomatoes to ripen can be nerve racking, especially this time of the year. The final ripening process depends upon temperature, humidity, light levels and other environmental factors. The optimum temperature range for ripening is between 68 and 77 degrees. Outdoor temperatures below or above the optimum range will slow down the ripening process.
The final team activities of the 2014 recreation seasons are nearing an end and we are already looking ahead to 2015, but we would be in error not to congratulate those teams and individuals who helped make our programs a success.
Our Youth Flag Football recently wrapped up with seven teams participating in a five- week season. At this time, we would like to thank our volunteer coaches. For the 5-6 year old division: Steelers’ Coach Chad Sims, Patriots’ Coach Karline Gray, Packers’ Coach Adrian Jackson, and Broncos’ Coach Wombie Jackson.
