Area poultry growers who feel they were damaged during Pilgrim’s Pride 2009 shutdown of its Farmerville chicken processing plant could find some financial redemption in the future.

Farmerville attorney Johnny Dollar said that a recent ruling by a U.S. magistrate judge in Marshall, Texas, that awarded around $26 million in damages to poultry growers who supplied stock to Pilgrim’s Pride in El Dorado, Ark., leaves him feeling confident about an upcoming similar case filed by growers who feel they were damaged by the 2009 shutdown of Pilgrim’s Pride Farmerville facility before it was eventually bought and re-opened by Foster Farms with the help of the state of Louisiana.
