Congressman comments on Sparta, Social Security

Fifth District Congressman Rodney Alexander, R-Quitman, was recently in town and stopped by the Daily Leader to share his inside knowledge and perspectives on a few topics of interest to local residents.

One project Alexander said he supports is a plan to treat water from Lake D’Arbonne to be used by the municipalities of Ruston and Farmerville as an alternative to the Sparta Aquifer.

The Sparta is the primary source of potable water for Lincoln and 14 other North Louisiana parishes, as well as parts of Arkansas. Water levels have been falling for years and there has been saltwater intrusion as a result over overuse.
