Despite what most would consider excellent grades on my report card each year, when most students were lounging at home or in the pool I was back at school.

Each summer, for several weeks, I attended a summer day camp specifically for those of Native American heritage.

While my fair hair and matching complexion might hide my heritage, my chocolate-colored eyes (as opposed to the baby blues that often accompany blonde hair) and high cheekbones offer hints to the fact that I’m not of Nordic descent.
