Half a dozen homes in between Grambling and Simsboro were evacuated Tuesday night after an 18-wheeler loaded with 8,500 gallons of gasoline overturned on the side of the road.

Lincoln Parish Fire District spokesman Jim Hilton said at approximately 7:45 p.m. Tuesday, the driver of an 18-wheeler ran off of Gahagan Road off of U.S. Highway 80 and overturned.

“The driver said he was driving right in the middle of the storm last night, and he couldn’t see the edge of the road,” Hilton said. “He said he just slid into the ditch and turned over.”
