Cashiers wade through chaos

Unfortunately, this does not seem to be the case with all cashiers. I can think of several visits to large stores or chain restaurants where the workers have been inattentive and even rude. Observations include cashiers who:

• Chat for several minutes with people they obviously know who have already bought an item while others are still waiting in line;

• Without a word, leave the register unattended for a period of time as a customer or two is standing there;

• Become irritated or angry when a customer asks a lot of questions about a service or product; and
