I appreciated the article concerning parking in downtown Ruston (Nov. 6 issue of the Daily Leader).

The major problem with the parking and the reason we must have a two-hour limit is because many downtown merchants and employees abuse the available parking. It was apparent from the article that the interviewed merchants felt entitled to parking. No merchant in the downtown owns past his building façade; the sidewalks and parking are all public. The reason Starbucks and Crescent City have untimed parking is because they own their parking lots.
If the owners and employees of each business insisted on parking in front of their business there would be absolutely no available parking for customers.
