Anita Alfred, of Ruston, and John Philip Stephens, of Shreveport, were married at 4:30 p.m. Oct. 1 at Temple Baptist Church. The double-ring ceremony was officiated by the Rev. Howard Davis and the Rev. Keith Stephens.
Anita is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Alfred, of Chennai, India. She is the granddaughter of the late Rev. and Mrs. Doss and the late Mr. and Mrs. Moses.
Philip is the son of Kathleen Eaton, of Wisner, and the Rev. Keith Stephens, of Monroe. He is the grandson of Betty Harper, of Clinton, Miss., the late Cecil Harper, Otto Stephens, of Alexander City, Ala., and the late Lois Pipkin.
Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a signature design by Maggie Sottero in soft Alabaster Shimmer-Satin. The bodice was created in delicate Venetian lace sprinkled with crystals and satin ruching. The dramatic ball gown skirt featured an inset of beaded Venetian lace punctuated with hand-made silk roses. The softly bubbled skirt with a confection of layered bustles, nestled with roses, extended to a breath-taking six foot train. She wore a Swarovski crystal tiara and a three-tier cathedral length veil of Parisian tulle. She carried a cascading bouquet of blue delphiniums, ivory lily of the valley and ivory orchids.
Christine Charles, of Overland Park, Kan., served as maid of honor.
Skarleth Vargas, of Ruston, served as a bridesmaid, and Emily Erickson, of Ruston, served as a junior bridesmaid.
The bridesmaids wore blue empire waist knee length dresses and carried delphinium and orchid bouquets.
Andrew Stephens, of Monroe, served as the best man. Brady Crenshaw, of Shreveport, and David Hogue, of Brandon, Miss., served as groomsmen.
Ajit Alfred, of Detroit, Mich., Dr. Samuel Charles, of Overland Park, Kan., Jarod Lee, of Brookhaven, Miss., and Jeremiah Raab, of Shreveport, served as ushers during the ceremony.
Mr. and Mrs. Michael Ham, of Monroe, served as guestbook attendants. Kerry Moore, of West Monroe, and Katie Lee, of Brookhaven, Miss., read passages during the ceremony.
Music was provided by Anne Gaushell.
A reception was held directly following the wedding at the Lincoln Parish Library Events Center.
Chad Hays provided music for the reception, and local caterers provided the food. The cake was provided by Staci’s Cakes, and Shelley Hill served as wedding coordinator.
Before the wedding, the following celebrations were held in honor of the couple:
On Sept. 16, a wedding shower was held in the home of Dawn and Dan Erickson, who served as hosts.
A rehearsal dinner was hosted by the groom’s parents at Log Cabin on Sept. 30.
The couple will make their home in Shreveport.
