Luminaries on the Lake continues to shine

Lights like these are placed all around Cypress Springs Lake in Ruston. They will be up through December for any resident wanting to drive by to take a look.

It hardly seems like one family trip to Virginia could spawn a 25-year tradition that many in the area flock to see every Christmas, but for Mary Higginbotham and the residents of Cypress Springs Lake Association, that is exactly what they got in 1986.

Higginbotham made a family trip to Virginia, where she noticed something she thought was a sight to see — luminaries.

The luminaries she saw on the trip stuck with her so much, she said she decided to tell the members of Cypress Springs and others about them, and then decided to bring the tradition to Ruston with the annual Luminaries on the Lake.
