Women’s clout is diminishing in the Louisiana Legislature, after three decades of steady gains.
With the start of the new legislative term in January, there will be 16 women in the House and Senate, about 11 percent of the 144-member Legislature and roughly the same number of female lawmakers as in 1996, according to the Louisiana Legislative Women’s Caucus.
