Proper etiquette in the South is usually one of those odd program settings one can never seem to really erase.

Children are taught from a young age to answer adults with “Yes Ma’am/Sir” and “No Ma’am/Sir” and most know what protocol should be followed for certain instances.
Females are usually more aware of these protocols than their male counterparts, which can cause problems later on.
