From bowl site to WAC finish, Tech kept ’em guessing

Junior placekicker Matt Nelson (33) is one of 21 Louisiana Tech University players included in the current NCAA national rankings for the Football Bowl Subdivision. Nelson is included in the scoring and field goals’ categories. Serving as the holder this season for Nelson’s attempts is former Monroe Neville High School star Taylor Burch (16), a redshirt freshman quarterback.

Louisiana Tech University’s football team wasn’t very cooperative with the prognostication world this season.

Two things happened that had the preseason “guessperts” nibbling on their No. 2 lead pencils or seeing if their calculators had crashed:

• The majority of polls had the ‘Dogs finishing no higher than fourth place in the Western Athletic Conference standings, among them being Sporting News magazine.
