This week, the U.S. Census Bureau released a fresh report indicating that approximately 97.1 million Americans live either within the low-income bracket (roughly $45,000 for a family of four), while another 49.1 million live under the poverty threshold of $24,343. (The threshold is as much as $32,869 in states with relatively high costs of living, such as California and New York.)
