LPSO Sheriff’s Citizen on Patrol unit volunteer Claud Aker takes 9-year-old Deterious Dawson through the toy section at Walmart on Monday so Dawson can purchase $100 in presents for himself for Christmas.

Christmas time came early to a group of 72 Lincoln Parish children this year as the second annual Shop with a Cop program put on by Walmart and the Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office provided gifts Monday night to children who otherwise may not have been so lucky.

Walmart Community Involvement Coordinator Leah Frazier said the group of 72 children were given $100 a piece, then they were partnered with an LPSO or Ruston Police Department representative who took them around the store, monitoring their purchases to make sure they didn’t exceed the $100 limit.
