Universities’ slashes affect classrooms

Budget cuts have hit area colleges and universities pretty hard over the past few years, and as cash continues to siphon from Louisiana Tech and Grambling State University’s coffers, the students at each university are also starting to feel the sting of the budget cut.

“You can really tell (Tech) is doing what they can, but when you lose money like they have, it is hard not to notice a few differences,” sophomore engineering student Brandon Walters said.

Walters was referring to the most recent round of budget cuts that hit both parish universities in mid-December — a mid-year budget reduction after the state made the decision to cut $50 million from public colleges all over the state.
