GRAMBLING — Art Shell has his place secure in professional sports history.

In 1989, he became the first African-American of the modern era to be named as a head coach in the National Football League.

But for the franchise that chose him as his leader, the Pro Football Hall of Famer and one of the game’s best offensive linemen ever never viewed that title in any answer-to-a-sports-trivia-question terms.
