Jindal budget full of problems

It may be a good thing that Bobby Jindal is a lame-duck governor. The 2012-13 budget he’s proposed to the Louisiana Legislature is bound to make a lot of people mad.

Among other things, Jindal’s asking state workers to work more years for less benefits, and, in some cases, sacrifice their jobs all together.

He’s proposing to sell a state prison in Avoyelles Parish, close prisons in Pineville and Keithville, hire a private company to run Louisiana’s state employee health-care plan in the Office of Group Benefits, privatize two facilities that care for the developmentally disabled, eliminate ferry boat operations in two south Louisiana towns and privatize ferries in three others. The closures and privatizations would cost up to 2,700 people their jobs, something that may not be too popular in the current economy.
