Jurors OK exploration of options
Lincoln Parish Police Jurors are looking to have the enormous amount of woodwaste at the landfill either burned or buried.
During a meeting of the Jury Solid Waste and Recycling Committee last week, former parish administrator Richard Durrett, with Waggoner Engineering, provided a presentation on the problem at the landfill and possible solutions.
Early in 2010, the parish ended its contract with a company that burns wood collected from tree surgeons, yards and off the roads at the parish landfill. Instead, police jurors contracted with a local company for a more environmentally friendly and cost-effective plan to grind the woodwaste and use it for mulch or combine it with soil and soil conditioners. However, the amount of woodwaste at the landfill turned out to be more than the company could use, and since this time it has been accumulating.
