Ruston Fire Department responds to debris fire

A small rubbish pile fire broke out at the site where the Simba Inn is being demolished on the North Service Road around 10:40 a.m. Wednesday. Ruston Fire Department Assistant Chief Schuyler League said nine firefighters responded to the scene with two fire trucks and a command vehicle. The fire, which reportedly took about an hour to put out, began when a salvage crew cutting steel with a cutting torch accidentally ignited some old paper files from the motel, and the fire spread to some roofing material already on the ground from the demolishment, League said.
