Ruston High School’s Isaiah Buggs was a second-team selection on the Louisiana Sports Writers Association Class 5A boys All-State team.
RHS’s Trey Brown also earned honorable mention on the boys All-State squad.
Greg White-Pittman, of Holy Cross, and Jennifer Clark, of Mount Carmel Academy, saw their seasons end in different ways. That didn’t keep the two New Orleans standouts from claiming the top honors on the Louisiana Sports Writers Association’s Class 5A All-State teams.
Louisiana Tech Dunkin’ Dogs junior Erik McCree (left) and Lady Techsters freshman Kierra Anthony (right) both hauled in Conference-USA weekly honors Monday with McCree being named the league’s Men’s Player of the Week and Anthony being tabbed as the Women’s Freshman of the Week. McCree led the Bulldogs in scoring and rebounding in both games played against Ole Miss and Southern while averaging 20.5 points per game, shooting 46 percent from the field and 44 percent from three-point range. He also averaged 8.5 boards per game.
The Ruston Bearcats produced two combined winners in the boys and girls singles as the Louisiana High School Athletics Association’s State Tennis Championships got underway Monday at the University of Louisiana-Monroe.
Caleb White took his opening match 6-1, 7-6 from Cameron Doles of Holy Cross and before defeating Chase Hinton of Assumption 6-1, 6-1 to move to the quarterfinals round.
Ruston’s Sarah Cowell topped Krystina Pitre of Morgan 7-6, 6-4 in the round of 32 before being knocked out of the tourney in a 6-3, 6-21 loss to Assumption’s Dina Crochet 6-3, 6-1.
