MONTHLY TOWN HALL MEETING MINUTES
MONDAY, FEBRUARY 6, 2012
The Village of Simsboro met in regular session Monday, February 6, 2012 at 6:00 P. M. Council members present were Alderman Pam Durrett, and Alderman Doug Durrett. Alderman Tiffany Cole was absent. Mayor Hendricks called the meeting to order. Alderman Pam Durrett voiced the prayer. Mayor Hendricks led in the Pledge of Allegiance. Mayor Hendricks presented the agenda to the Aldermen and asked for a motion to accept as presented. Motion was made by Alderman Pam Durrett, seconded by Alderman Doug Durrett. Motion passed. The minutes of the January 7, 2012 regular Town Hall Meeting was read. Mayor Hendricks asked if there were any questions or corrections. There were none. A motion was made by Alderman Doug Durrett and seconded by Alderman Pam Durrett to accept the minutes as read. Motion passed. The minutes of the January 19, 2012 Special Called Meeting was read. Mayor Hendricks asked if there were any questions or corrections. There were none. A motion was made by Alderman Pam Durrett, seconded by Alderman Doug Durrett to accept the minutes as read. Motion passed.
FINANCIAL REPORT: Doug Brewer reported everything is in line according to budget.
He also presented the Financial Report for December 31, 2011 and December 31, 2010.
PUBLIC COMMENT: Joe Reed requested a copy of the Financial Report.
DISCUSSION OF MUNICIPAL BILLS: Aldermen were provided a report of all checks written to review. Mayor Hendricks asked if there were any questions. There were none.
MAYOR'S REPORT: Mayor Hendricks reported that the Health Hut is doing a great job of giving medical attention to the citizens. Our count is around 12 every week. Some changes are being made to accommodate them and still provide an office atmosphere at Town Hall. The Village of Simsboro has received approval for the Sewer Revenue Bond in the amount of $120,000 for removing the sludge at the Treatment Plant. After approval from DEQ, the Village will purchase equipment for our Sewer System. The Village of Simsboro has applied for two (2) grants in the “Go Green Project” through DEQ. The Village of Simsboro is without an attorney but Mayor Hendricks is scheduled to talk to an attorney and then will set up a review with the Aldermen.
DISCUSSION OF OIL, GAS & MINERAL LEASE: Val Murrell, leasing agent for Indigo Minerals explained the request to renew a lease that expired in 2011 on the 25 acres which is named Madden Park, donated by Mrs. Marilyn Madden and previously leased in 2008. Questions were asked and answered. Alderman Doug Durrett recommended we do an identical lease as in 2008. Mr. Murrell stated if he could get a copy of the previous lease that would not be a problem. After a new lease is presented the Mayor will review it and discuss with the Aldermen at the next Town Hall Meeting.
DISCUSSION-RENOVATION PROJECT: Mayor Hendricks stated he is waiting for approval from the Governor on a Grant Application before proceeding with the renovation.
WATER/SEWER REPORT: Shelby Kelley reported that the water system was operating well, no problems. He will be installing a flush valve at the end of Railroad Avenue. There were some problems with a couple of lift stations but those had been corrected and everything is running well. Walter Carpenter from MML&H discussed the two (2) “Go Green Projects”. Project 1 “Cellular Based Monitoring System for Lift Stations and Water Well Tanks”, Project 2 “Automated Meter Reading System”. These projects were discussed and questions answered. Discussion is on tape and available upon request.
Motion was made by Alderman Doug Durrett, seconded by Alderman Pam Durrett to adjourn Town Hall Meeting. Motion passed.
