Former Techsters’ star, husband lifting optimism for Lady Demons

Former Louisiana Tech University Lady Techsters’ Head Coach Leon Barmore (left) congratulated new Northwestern State University Lady Demons’ co-head coaches Brooke Lassiter Stoehr and husband Scott following a press conference in Natchitoches Wednesday. Barmore was among an estimated 150 in attendance announcing the Stoehrs as the newest addition to the school’s athletics staff.

NATCHITOCHES — Nine young women among the nearly 150 people sitting in Prather Coliseum Wednesday have more at stake than anyone else as the husband-wife team of Scott and Brooke Stoehrs takes charge of the Northwestern State women’s basketball program.
While others in the audience at the “Meet and Greet Luncheon” heard from the new Lady Demon co-head coaches for the first time, the players returning for 2012-13 already had a workout under their belts along with a get-acquainted team meeting Monday afternoon.
They were smiling proudly during and after the luncheon, brimming with optimism that the program is in exactly the right hands. The Lady Demons are eager to overcome recent struggles and regain stature as a Southland Conference championship contender.
