This past week, several young adults were arrested by the Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office on a multitude of drug related offenses, all within one drug-sting operation. If this comes as a shock to some, it shouldn’t.

According to a report posted on www.gov.state.la.us, in 2007, 9 percent of adults in Louisiana used illicit drugs, excluding marijuana, in any given 30 day period. The national average that year was 8.5 percent. Youth ages 12-17 were .08 percent above the national average in the same year. These statistics did not include prescription pill abuse, which is soaring in illegal use nationwide.
