My earliest memory of the Louisiana Peach Festival is of breaking out in hives after catching a non-defuzzed peach thrown from the back of a parade float.

Yes, once upon a time real peaches really were tossed into the crowd, sort of like Mardi Gras beads. Almost before my mother could walk me across Park Avenue to the Marbury Rexall drug store, I was red and itchy all over.
