Bearcats end spring drills on positive note
052012 JONES RUN C.jpg
Junior running back Damian Jones (30) tries to avoid junior defensive back Clayton Porter (2 showing) during Ruston High School’s spring-ending scrimmage on Saturday at James Field. Senior lineman Danny Burham (45) was among other defenders ready to move in on Jones, who scored three touchdowns for the offensive unit.

A couple of things should bode well for Ruston High School’s football team before it begins its 2012 season.

Number one: there was a positive note and optimism stemming from Saturday’s spring-ending scrimmage at James Field.

Number two: before you can say “Taj Mahal,” which is how Billy Laird described it, the new and long overdue Bearcats’ fieldhouse will be ready for occupancy.

In both cases, players and coaches should have the summer days flying by optimistically before that Aug. 31 regular season opener beckons at home against I-20 rival Monroe Neville High.
