New warning system could be expanded

Ruston aldermen have approved a resolution that will allow sirens to be installed at 13 different locations throughout the city.

The Outdoor Audible Emergency Warning System, which includes voice command capability to give residents instructions, will be used to warn residents in the event of bad storms or other emergencies.

“It’s seems we’ve gotten more tornado-prone in the last few years, so this is a good step in the right direction,” Ruston Mayor Dan Hollingsworth said at the Monday City Council meeting.
