Although abusers typically have Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde personalities which exhibit a pleasing façade to those outside the abusive relationship, they never perfectly mask their intent. In the same way that a boxer telegraphs a punch, the abuser gives him or herself away with certain behavioral clues. It’s important to identify these clues as early as possible in any relationship, but Internet relationships are particularly problematic.
