Father’s Day is this weekend. The endless television and Internet commercials for Father’s Day keep us mindful of our own fathers whether absent or present, living or dead. The vivid commercialized images of dads playing with their children, dancing with their wives or grilling for their families call up the realities of our own experiences with fathers. Some take in these pictures with wistful smiles and bittersweet memories; others feel stabs of pain and regret.
