Ruston City Council members met very briefly on Monday to introduce an ordinance.

City attorney Bill Carter said the ordinance would basically enable the city to adopt the rights of a municipality under a new state statute.

“The state law has changed,” Carter said. “Cable TV and video communications companies can apply for and receive a state certificate that allows them to operate in a certain area instead of having a franchise agreement with the city or police jury.”
