Land with no purpose
Throughout Lincoln Parish, there are properties on which no one is paying taxes.
These are structures or pieces of land labeled as adjudicated, which are titled under the Lincoln Parish Police Jury.
According to parish counsel Andy Shealy, the owners did not pay taxes on these properties for a given period of time, so, along with other properties with unpaid taxes, they were made available to the public through a sheriff’s office tax sale. However, these particular properties were never sold, and have remained in the name of the jury. Consequently, no taxes are being collected on them to help support the school board, library or other taxing bodies.
