While I lived in Monroe, I was around long enough to go through the economic roller coaster that is the twin cities.

The Monroe/ West Monroe area is really a nice place to live, but like most regions of its size, it has its fair share of poverty, unemployment and crime. It has also experienced its share of economic downs — State Farm and the GM Guide plant leaving a few years ago, — and its ups — CenturyLink expanding into a Fortune 500 and maintaining its headquarters in Monroe.
