As a teenager and young child, I spent a significant amount of time reading.

It was a habit to the extreme that during some vacations, I preferred to stay holed up in a backroom absorbed in a good mystery novel rather than socializing with relatives.

But if a child is going to be addicted to something, reading is a good choice.
