Locals stand up for freedom of expression

Residents showed up on Wednesday to eat at Chick-Fil-A, located on Louisiana Tech University’s campus, in an effort to support the company’s CEO after he stood up in support of traditional family values last week.

Area residents flooded Louisiana Tech University’s campus on Wednesday to grab a bite to eat at the school’s on-campus Chick-Fil-A restaurant.

But, it wasn’t just the flavor that drew the crowd. Instead, residents were showing up to support the company’s CEO Dan Cathy, after he came out in support of traditional family values last week.

The day, “Chick-Fil-A Appreciation Day,” was declared by former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee to support a business “whose executives are willing to take a stand for the Godly values.” The appreciation day was in response to protests by gay rights advocacy groups, as well as the removal of Jim Henson Muppet toys in Chick-Fil-A kids’ meals and threats from cities such as Boston and Chicago to withhold building permits for the company.
