Eddie W. Harvey was born on October 21, 1936 in Quitman, LA., to Lawson C. "Pete" Harvey and Mary Cooper Harvey. He passed away on August 1, 2012 following a lengthy illness.

Funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church, Ruston, on Friday, August 3, 2012 at 2:00pm, with visitation from 12:00 until funeral time at the church.

Mr. Harvey was a graduate of Quitman High School and of LA. Tech in 1959 with a degree in petroleum engineering. While at Tech he met his wife, Melva Jones, of Bastrop, LA. They were married on November 8, 1958.

Before starting his engineering career he served six months with the U.S. Army. After discharge he completed his military obligation by serving in the U.S. Air Force reserve for 5 1/2 years.

After his active duty he was employed as a sales engineer with Continental Emsco Company and then with Schlumberger Well Surveying Company. In 1962 he accepted a petroleum engineering position with the Internal Revenue Service in Shreveport. He retired from this position with in 1994. Melva also retired from the Caddo Parish School Board and in February, 1994 they moved to Ruston.

Eddie and Melva were long-time members of the Church of God in Shreveport. At the time of his death he was a member and deacon of the First Baptist Church of Ruston.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Melva Jones Harvey; daughters, Teri Harvey Johnston from Quitman, LA and Lori Harvey Kaiser and husband Jimmy of St. Francisville, LA; sister, Gayle Harvey Sherrill and husband Bill of Ft. Smith, AR; grandchildren, Rachel Johnston, Leah Johnston, Samuel Johnston, Trace Kaiser, Mackenzie Kaiser Almendra and husband Daniel, and Kaylee Kaiser. Also surviving are his two nieces, Meredith Sherrill Wilson and Mandy Sherrill Obana. Mr. Harvey was preceded in death by his parents.

Pallbearers will be: Trace Kaiser, Samuel Johnston, John Jones, Jim Jones, Lynn Harvey and Charles Cooper. Honorary pallbearers will be his Sunday School Class.

Memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Ruston. Funeral servies are under the direction of Edmonds, Jonesboro.
