Ninth Annual Family Day draws 250 children

Tellis Cooper Foundation hands out school supplies, information to families in need

With a large gathering of approximately 250 children, the Tellis Cooper Foundation sponsored the Ninth Annual Family Day in the Park Back-to-School Jamboree at the Greenwood Recreation Center, located at 1306 Cornell Ave.

“The theme this year was ‘Continue to Reach for the Next,’” said Joy Tellis Cooper, a native of Ruston and founder of the event. “It’s based on the idea to continue to reach for the next goal. It’s very important to me that a person, adult or child, has a mentor. Along with my parents, Greg Williams was one of mine and I want kids to understand that there are people that care about them and want to see them do well. We want the kids to know that their circumstance should not dictate their destiny.”
