Infected bug pool in Ruston
Although it is not widespread, West Nile Virus is here and able to be transmitted to humans.
This was the message Kellie Lowery communicated on Friday when she learned a pool of mosquitoes found in the city of Ruston had tested positive for WNV, which is passed to humans through the bug’s bite and can be fatal in some cases.
Last week, there were reportedly five pools or samples — containing between five and 100 mosquitoes each — sent to a lab at Louisiana State University for testing. Of theses pools, one came back positive for WNV.
