Embrace Meet the Blind Month
People sometimes have funny ideas about blind people. I’ve heard silly questions like “How do you eat?” and “How do you take a bath?” (with a fork and knife, and the same way you do); practical questions like “How do blind people use computers and phones?” and “How do you go clothes shopping?” (screen-reading software that reads text, and by asking lots of questions in the store). Occasionally, there are more serious questions like “How do you get around in a new town?” (by looking up information and addresses, and asking directions). People often have many questions for the blind, but never ask. The best way to find the answers is to talk to a blind person.
